'The Protestants Champion!!' (Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, Son of King George III)
London: George Humphrey, 1825. Etching and engraving with hand coloring in watercolor on cream wove paper, 10 x 7 3/4 inches (252 x 195 mm), trimmed to the platemark. Siginificant condition issues include multiple repaired tears in the lower center sheet area, thick adhesive residue throughout on the verso, and a corner tear that extends approximately 1.5 inches into the image area in the lower right. There is also an irregular trapezoidal area of bright discoloration with associated small surface losses at the top left sheet corner. Despite the condition issues, the pigments are fresh and bright.
This portrait of King George the III's son was published in the same year that Beethoven's Ninth Symphony premiered in London.
