A complete specimen (with advertisement at end) of this humorous and engaging social and political satire just before the French Revolution. The 18 colored plates are by English artist and caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson (1757-1827). Rowlandson is known for his political satire and social observation. He was a prolific printmaker, and illustrated many novels, humorous books, and topographical works. Like other caricaturists of the Georgian Era (Gillray, Cruikshank), his caricatures are often robust or bawdy.
