1767. Mezzotint on cream laid paper with an indiscernible alpha numeric watermark, 8 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches (210 x 267 mm), the full sheet. In very good condition with minor uniform age tone and surface soiling, and two paper tabs at the top right and left corners on the verso.

A simple interior where a young man sits beside the hearth next to a lamp, reading from a small volume to an old man sitting opposite him, shielding his eyes with one hand, while a woman occupies herself with household work to left; after a drawing by Rembrandt which probably depicts Tobias' son reading to his father.
Captain William Baillie is highly respected for his technical skill and his historical role in restoring and preserving Rembrandt’s original copper plates, such as the famous "Hundred Guilder Print."
