Furioso, two issues (fall and winter 1947)

1947. 8vo, 9 1/8 x6 inches (233 x151 mm), each issue is 88 pp. in paper wrappers with different color bands on cover. The fall issue features six drawings by Picasso and both have scattered spot illustrations.

Two issues of FUORIOSO magazine, known for its modernist feel, featuring many writers associated with that movement.
These two particular issues are highly sought after by collectors of 20th-century American literature because they contain scarce, posthumously published pieces by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Furioso began publishing in 1939, founded and edited by James J. Angleton and E. Reed Whittemore, Jr. while they were students at Yale. Publication was interrupted by World War II and a major office fire, resuming in 1946 as a quarterly. Each issue presents a mix of poetry and prose from diverse contributors and is decorated with the magazine’s recurring mascot, “the imp.”
The Fall 1947 features issue with six drawings by Pablo Picasso to accompany an edition of a work by Guillaume Apollinaire as well as "The Broadcast We Almost Heard Last September," by F. Scott Fitzgerald and essays on Herman Melville and Ernst Junger. The Winter 1947 contains a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald entitled "News of Paris —Fifteen Years Ago."
