Paris: Administration Foire de Paris, 1929. First Edition. 8vo, 8 5/8 x 4 7/8 inches (218 x 122 mm); 880 pp, + 64 pp supplement. Two color printed advertisement cards attached by a ribbon, one clear sheet specimen advertising the invention of cellophane, and foldout map with advertisements tipped inside back cover. Copious advertisements throughout, some sections printed on light blue paper. Original publisher’s printed wrappers with light wear and minor soiling; some edge rubbing. Pages toned and early gatherings a little loose, otherwise the binding is solid. Occasional margin notes. The advertisement cards are well preserved, with ribbon intact. A very good copy overall.

Official catalogue of the May 1929 Paris Fair, one of the most important international commercial exhibitions of the interwar period, reflecting the vitality of French and global industry during the années folles. The volume enumerates exhibitors across a wide range of sectors—industrial, decorative, and domestic—offering a detailed cross-section of contemporary design, technology, and consumer culture. The cover is from the poster created for the fair by Pierre Commarmond. Replete with advertisements, many with deco graphics, and two original advertisement cards attached by ribbons to the volume, and a printed sample of cellophane: fragile and ephemeral elements rarely preserved in situ. From 1929 the fair has hosted the Concours Lépine, a competition for inventions, and in 1929 the fair extended its international reach with 754 foreign exhibitors.
