C: 8vo, 8 5/8 x 5 3/8 inches (210 x 135 mm), 16 pp, with paper cover printed in black, blue and red. Pages toned and lower right corner chipped.
D: stapled booklet, 5/7/8 x 3 5/8 inches (148 x 92 mm), 13 out of 20 heliogravure postcards in black & white present, with perforated left edges; held in a grey board wrapper printed in gold and black.
An attractive and curious collection of items relating to the 1924 Olympics which were held in in Chamonix (25 January to 5 February) and Paris (July 5 - 27). The 1924 Paris Olympics were distinguished as the first to feature an Olympic Village (wooden cabins), the inaugural closing ceremony flag ritual, and the first use of the motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius" (Faster, Higher, Stronger). It was the second time Paris hosted, making it the first city to do so twice, hosting 44 nations and over 3,000 athletes. It was also the first Olympics with live radio broadcasting, official film/photography rights. It introduced marked lanes in swimming, formalized the 26.2 mile marathon distance and featured the last appearance of tennis for over 60 years.
