Gargantua, a headliner with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus from 1937 to 1949 was quite possibly the most famous circus animal of the 20th century. "Based on his posters, crowds expected a terrifying animal, capable of pulling apart the bars on his cage and crushing people with his bare hands."
