This is the last of three works written collaboratively by Conrad and Ford. "This story originally appeared in the English Review, and when Mr. Hueffer wished to reprint it in book form Conrad had quite forgotten he had collaborated in the work. The book contains an Appendix in which Ford analyzes the collaboration of Romance." (Keating 185)
First British edition of the last of three books written by Joseph Conrad and Ford Madox Ford [Hueffer].
Polish-British writer JOSEPH CONRAD (1857 – 1924) is widely considered one of the greatest novelists of the English language. Writing near the peak of the British Empire, Conrad drew, among other things, on his native Poland's national experiences and on his own experiences in the French and British merchant navies, to create short stories and novels that reflect aspects of a European-dominated world, including imperialism and colonialism, and that profoundly explore the human psyche. Conrad's best known novels and short stories include Heart of Darkness (1899), Lord Jim (1900), Nostromo (1904), and The Arrow of Gold. (1919).
FORD MADOX FORD [F.M.HUEFFER] (1873 – 1939) was an English novelist, poet, critic and editor whose journals The English Review and The Transatlantic Review were important in the development of early 20th-century English and American literature. He is remembered for his novels The Good Soldier (1915), the Parade's End tetralogy (1924–1928) and The Fifth Queen trilogy (1906–1908).
