Sir Muirhead Bone (Glasgow, 1876–1953) was a Scottish engraver and watercolorist best known for his depictions of industrial and architectural subjects and his work as a war artist in both the First and Second World Wars. After the armistice, he began to travel extensively abroad, visiting France, Italy, and Spain, among other countries, which increasingly influenced his work. Between 1925 and 1928, he made an extensive visit to Spain with his wife, Gertrude Bone, a writer. This trip resulted in this celebrated work "Old Spain."
