Printed in black, with title in red and illustrations in terra cotta ink, on B F K Riveswhite wove paper. Bound in white buckram, with front cover gold blocked with a design from the text, gilt title on spine. Top edge cut, rest deckled. Endpapers marbled by Giorgio Vigna of Verona, black slipcase.
Copy no. 50 signed by both author and illustrator on the limitation page, out of a total edition of 206.

This is the first of Whittington's books to utilize offset-lithography "...which enabled Richard Kennedy's illustrations to wander over the page... The principle was to give the page a structure in the form of the well-spaced, 18-point Caslon text, and allow the illustrations to meander around it, and on one occasion even though it (which is rumored to have brought about heart seizure of an eminent typographer)."
