A small acknowledgment sheet is bound in before the preface. With 64 beautiful plates of watercolors by Helen Allingham, each with a tissue guard, browned and creating some offset to facing text page. Green cloth cover with gilt decorations and lettering to front and spine, t.e.g. Binding tight with very slight rubbing to tail of spine and some paper tape residue to lower right corner of front cover. Some dampstaining inside both covers and free endpapers, not affecting the inside pages. A little foxing on the gutters of a few pages, not affecting text or images. Otherwise pages are in very good condition and the colors bright.
First edition of this charming guide to the many different types of cottage homes in England, a wonderful picturesque work illustrated by the notable watercolorist Helen Allingham (1848 – 1926). She was the first woman to be admitted as a full member of the Royal Watercolor Society and her work was exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
