London: The Author at Egyptian Hall Piccadilly, 1842. Second Edition. 2 vols. 8vo. 9 7/8 x 5 3/4 inches (244 x 147 mm); Vol.1: viii, 264; Vol. 2:viii, 266. Illustrated with three maps (one folding) and over 300 lithographic illustrations, revised from the author's original paintings. Pages are in very good, clean condition, with foxing on the first and last few pages. Half red morocco with red cloth boards, decorative endpapers, raised bands, gilt titles. Binding a little brittle and rubbed, corners bumped and chipped, hinges of vol. 1 starting, and its cover discolored, but bindings are square and tight.
Binder's pencil notations and order ticket bound in between endpapers in both volumes.

George Catlin (1796 – 1872) is celebrated for his monumental work in North American ethnology. The American artist and anthropologist visited forty-eight native tribes on his extensive tour of the American west and executed some six hundred paintings, many of which were engraved and included in this two-volume set of "Letters and Notes"
