A note on the provenance:
Alexander Beugo was prints and drawings dealer, and print publisher based in London in the early 19th century.
Beugo's portrait was engraved by James Mitan after a drawing by Joseph Flight, London 1814. The inscription on this print mentions that he had a collection of portraits, topographical, historical, and ornamental prints, etchings, fine examples of line engraving, etc., all at reasonable prices. Another portrait, by an unidentified engraver, depicts him standing with prints under his arm. On his business card, he proudly advertised a vast and well-organized collection of prints by the most renowned masters, and in the corners, wreathed with leaves, were the names of the most important representatives of the Northern schools (A. Dürer, S. Bolswert, C. Visscher), Italy (M. Antonio, Volpato, Morghen), England (Faithhorne, Strange, Woollett, Sharpe, Landseer), and France (G. Audran, Gd. Edelinck, Desnoyers). After he ceased operations, his business was auctioned off in two sales in 1827, the first of which was recorded by Lugt in 1921 (Lugt Rep. 11364); the second involved what remained of his stock of prints.
