Study of an architectural ornament with an owl and a trumpet-shaped bloom.
c1800. Graphite and pen and ink on bluish-gray laid paper, 4 1/4 x 2 inches (118 x 50 mm). The ink is slightly attenuated, and there is uniform age tone. The bottom two corners are adhered to a paper mount with archival adhesive. On the verso there is some gray ink wash spatter, and several light pin-point sized spots of discoloration, otherwise in good condition.
