Portrait of an unknown Lady

c 1866. Etching with drypoint and engraving on Japan paper, 11 5/8 x 8 3/8 inches (294 x 212 mm), full margins. A later impression of this image which includes remarque in the margins may be found in the permanent collection of the Rijks Museum, Amsterdam.

Although the identity of the sitter remains lost to history, she bears a striking resemblance to Maria Best Pabst, wife of famed brewer Captain Frederick Pabst.
